The Biggest Black Holes

06 Dec

An artist's impression.

Scientists have discovered the biggest black holes ever seen.

Found at the heart of two galaxies several million light years from Earth, each black hole has an estimated mass 10 billion times greater than our Sun.

The previous record was a black hole with a mass of 6.3 billion times the Sun,  which is unimaginably incredible in itself – but to think that this record has now been beaten…!

Nothing can escape the spacetime region, not even light, as it draws in and compresses all matter around it.

I’m fascinated by the universe around us… and I wish everyone could appreciate its spectacle.
